Get the most out of your internet plan
Before calling your ISP, run a speed test at Speedtest by Hmida. Take note of your download speed, upload speed, ping, and jitter. Run it multiple times at different hours for a complete picture.
Check your ISP bill or account portal to confirm the plan speed you're subscribed to. If your Speedtest results are significantly lower than your plan speed, you have grounds to request a fix.
ISPs are only responsible for the speed delivered to your router. Connect your device directly via Ethernet cable and run the test again — this eliminates WiFi as a variable.
Save screenshots of your speed test results. Note the time, date, and whether you were on WiFi or Ethernet. Multiple data points across different times of day are more convincing than a single test.
When you call, be polite but direct. Say: "My plan promises X Mbps download. My wired Speedtest results consistently show Y Mbps. I'd like a technician visit or a bill adjustment."
If your ISP doesn't resolve the issue, ask to speak to a supervisor or file a complaint with your country's telecommunications regulator. In the US this is the FCC; in the EU it's your national NRA (National Regulatory Authority).
